Using Git to Program With Friends: A Complete Guide for Dummies

When I first heard of "Git", I was pretty stunned. In fact  I was pulled in by the fact that I could program with friends, without having to go through the pain of sending tons of emails with attachments  and keeping up to date with the latest source code. I looked online and I found many IDEs (integrated development environments) that were in browser.

It was pretty cool, until I realized there was only so much you could do with them, until they forced you to pay tons of fees.

I needed a solution that would help me.

But first of all let me tell you how I like to program. I use the IDE Eclipse, and I create Java programs and Android Applications and the occasional C++ program.

But best of all, I do it all off my flash drive!!!

Yes, that means I have the Eclipse on my flashdrive, my Eclipse workspace on my flash drive, the Java SDK on my flash drive, and lastly the Android SDK. It all fits pretty snugly.

You should try this out, for you only need a 8 Gigabyte flashdrive to store all this, and leave enough room for your projects. It's really handy.

But now, lets get back to the point: Git.

When I first tried Git, it was so complex it took me 2 days until I actually sorted everything out and got it to work.

First let me explain what Git is:

Git is an Open source software. Basically, its a tiny software that helps you upload files to an online server, also known as a git repository. From there you can download or clone the files, make changes, and upload or push changes.

Git is extensively used to keep track of changes to a group of documents. Specifically, source code for programs. (However, if can be used for other files like word documents.)

So first things first, you need to obtain a git repository. This can be done easily, as there are a variety of source code hosting services, some popular ones being GitHub and BitBucket.

Age of Empires Online: A Remake of a Classic

I remember, as a child, staying up all night on my Windows 98 playing Age of Empires: The Rise of Rome Expansion. And it wasn't even the whole game: it was the demo that came with Windows 98. Yet, I loved it. I played it hours upon hours, building my empire, crushing foes, and accumulating wealth.

The gameplay was simple, yet the strategy required to win was pure beauty.

In short, it was my first Age of Empires game, and I loved it.

Now, about 6 years later, I'm on Steam and I see Age of Empires Online. So this is what Microsoft has been up to.

In short, I love this game. Despite the bugginess of the Windows Live Game Marketplace and the poor integration with Xbox Live, I still love it. I love the fact that it is ready for download on Steam, and I love the fact that nothing much about the gameplay has changed.

But certain things have, the most prominent being the graphics: a new cartoony style that somewhat resembled Team Fortress 2. Many things have changed and labeling this game as a traditional "Real Time Strategy" is not adequate. To sum things up, the video below showcases how this game is a mix of Farmville, World of Warcraft, and the original Age of Empires games.

So in conclusion  this game is something I'm currently enjoying. Maybe its because I'm still Level 4, and in bliss over the nostalgia. Maybe this game going to be one of those "Pay to win" free to play games.

But as for now, I'm enjoying it, and many of its new social features.

Mobile Publications in Blogger

Lately I've tried posting mobile to my blog. This gave me several problems. Since I couldn't have access to the mobile Android app, I decided to try to see if there was an in browser app for mobile phones. Sadly, it doesn't exist. I didn't want to do the SMS messaging feature to publish posts, so I set up an email system. This is the first post I've published from the mobile in browser gmail app. So I'm not going to rant on why there is no mobile Blogger app in browser. But I really think there should be one. Since my blog has a mobile webpage for mobile browsers, there should be a way for me to post from a browser.

UberStrike: A Free FPS

Überstrike Wiki

For many of you out there that aren't into social games on Facebook, you probably may not have heard of UberStrike. Being on of the first "social shooters" out there, this game has a lot to offer for both hardcore FPS fans, and casual FPS gamers. But one of the major things that sets UberStrike apart from other FPS games, is the fact that it can run completely inside you web browser!!! Using the power of a 3d game engine, and a web plugin system, UberStrike can run seamlessly in a browser through Unity 3d technology.

Throughout the development of UberStrike, there has always been a great community behind it. Previously known as "Paradise Paintball" the games update which changed it to "UberStrike" has also given added content which includes much more maps, and items. The game seems to be getting better and better.

Here is an image showing a player wearing a custom outfit and holding a cannon. The customization aspect of the game can appeal to casual gamers.

There are numerous updates to the game. Displayed here is the Christmas map of 2011.

The gameplay is quite fast and action packed. So far there are game modes that are:
  • Deathmath: Every player against each other to try to get the highest score to win the game before time runs out
  • Team Deathmatch: 2 teams compete against each other for the highest amount of kills untill the time runs out or the max limit is reached.
  • Team Elimination: Teams face off, and the you are only given one life per round. Round end when the last team member(s) alive earns the team a win, and the other team is completely dead.
Capture the Flag is also said to come out soon. But what really amazes me when it comes to UberStrike is the mobile version in development.

Here is a sniper that glitches as he dies, thus wiggling his hand.
