Web Design

Web design is a form of design that relates to the structure and development behind a website or web page.   This field involves programming, graphics, and documents. All of this must be put into effect on a website. This process is known as web designing. This field is a blend of both math, engineering, and art. Creativity is needed in the design.

A website may include text, images, sounds and other content, and may be interactive. A creative aspect must be also made so that the website appeals to the end user.  Art and graphics design is used in the art aspect of this job.

All websites must have certain features that can’t be missed. As a designer you must know that websites must most importantly have this:
  • The content: the substance, and information on the site should be relevant to the site and should target the area of the public that the website is concerned with.
  • The usability: the site should be user-friendly, with the interface and navigation simple and reliable.
  • The appearance: the graphics and text should include a single style that flows throughout, to show consistency. The style should be professional, appealing and relevant.
  • The structure: of the web site as a whole.

Math is used in this form of art because not only must the web designer make the page look stylish but he must also use math to program different elements of the web site. Such elements as text, forms, images (GIFs, JPEGs, Portable Network Graphics) and video can be placed on the page using HTML/XHTML/XML tags. These types of languages help with the creation of the page. CSS (cascading style sheets) is a language that is focused primarily on blending images to create multiple images as backgrounds.

All in all web design is a great field where you can not only use real world skills of engineering, science, and math, but you can also use art to express in your website. If you are someone that not only enjoys technology, but loves art, this is the job for you.
